Matthias Höfs & Michael Schöch
Historic town of Merano
starting at 20:00 More infoDuration: 02:00
Location: Historic town of Merano
At the age of six, Matthias Höfs declared the trumpet to be “his instrument, because it shines so beautifully”. At just 18, he became principal trumpeter of the Hamburg State Philharmonic Orchestra. He enjoyed the fascinating world of opera for 16 years. At the same time, Höfs became a member of the GERMAN BRASS ensemble, with whom he enjoyed worldwide success. Ever since the ensemble’s first concert in 1985, he has been writing tailor-made arrangements for himself and his colleagues – arrangements that have inspired the brass world in an innovative, lasting and cross-genre way. With a pioneering musical spirit, Matthias Höfs continually broadens the horizons of his instrument – whether through close collaboration with composers inspired by his unrivalled virtuosity and enthusiasm for experimentation, as an ‘ambassador for the trumpet’ in his home region of Schleswig-Holstein, or through his long-standing partnership with instrument makers Max and Heinrich Thein. Matthias Höfs also passes on his passion for his instrument to his students, whom he has been teaching with great dedication as a professor at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre since 2000.
Alongside his extensive concert career as a soloist and chamber musician, Höfs has produced numerous solo CDs to date. He has also made more than 20 CD recordings with GERMAN BRASS. In October 2016, GERMAN BRASS was awarded the German ECHO Klassik – one of the highest honours for national and international musicians.
Michael Schöch is one of the few musicians who has mastered both the piano and organ repertoires to the same high standard. Winning first prize in the organ category at the ARD International Music Competition – an award presented for the first time in 40 years – he embarked on a career that has taken him to major concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Vienna Musikverein, the KKL Lucerne, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Philharmonie im Gasteig in Munich, the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Semperoper in Dresden, and churches such as the cathedrals of Riga, Passau, Merseburg, Mainz and Speyer. As a soloist, he has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Academy, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Camerata Salzburg, the St Blasius Academy Orchestra, the Kassel State Orchestra, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck and the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Rouen.
Michael Schöch’s work is documented in numerous radio recordings (including ORF, BR, SWR and Deutschlandradio) as well as on CD. Michael Schöch has now released 15 CDs. Amongst numerous other awards, he has won first prizes at the “Franz Schubert” International Piano Competition in Ruse, Bulgaria, the “August Everding” International Organ Competition in Munich, and the ADR International Music Competition in 2011. Since 2015, he has headed the organ class at the Tyrolean State Conservatoire in Innsbruck and, since 2024, has been artistic director of the International Paul Hofhaimer Competition in Innsbruck.

Festival VOCES
Historic town of Merano
starting at 20:00 More infoDuration: 02:30
Location: Historic town of Merano
The series begins on October 16 with *Double Voice*, a concert exploring the relationship between classical composers and folk traditions, starting with the beautiful Irish songs that Beethoven arranged for voice and piano trio. Building on this foundation, the program unfolds through works by De Falla, Satie, and Ravel, culminating in pieces by Nick Drake and Atoms for Peace adapted for this quintessentially classical ensemble. The star of the evening is Petra Magoni, a virtuoso and versatile singer who owes her fame primarily to her work with the extraordinary duo Musica Nuda.
The second event, on November 7 in the magnificent spaces of the Palais Mamming, features Italied, a program entirely dedicated to the Italian song from the Renaissance to the present day. Italy’s unique flair for melody is explored through a journey through the song genre across different eras, whose variety is brought together by a common thread: a specific instrumental accompaniment to the voice—the string quintet. In this case, Marcello Fera—in addition to composing the arrangements—returns to the role of singer after many years.
The third event, on December 4, features the world premiere of "Le voci sbagliate", a stage performance in Italian. A young woman dies in the hospital. She is strapped to the bed—said to be “restrained.” She dies in a fire. A work based on a text by Massimo Cirri and music by Marcello Fera that explores the fragility of our identities, the systems we have established, their inertia, the search for self, torment, and the crossing of boundaries. The clash or harmony between desire and possibility, the conflicts between care and confinement. The piece, for soprano, actress, narrator, and instruments, will feature soprano Nadia Kuprina, actress Aude Lorrillard, and Cirri himself on stage, along with Roberta Gottardi on clarinets, Federica Ragnini on cello, and Marcello Fera on violin.

Exclusive Wine Tasting
Lagundo village
starting at 15:00 More infoDuration: 02:00
Location: Lagundo village
The Kellerei Meran invites you to an exclusive wine tasting at the house of culture Thalguter in Algund on October 16th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. An experienced sommelier from the "Kellerei Meran" will present the finest wines and guide you through the tasting.
The Kellerei Meran is deeply rooted in our region. Tradition, landscape, and viticulture have always been closely intertwined in the Merano area. The foundation of the "Kellerei Meran" was laid back in 1901 by a few dedicated vintners. Today, following the merger of the "Burggräfler Kellerei" and the "Weinkellerei Meran" in 2010, the cooperative boasts 360 members.
In the glass, the origin and provenance of the grapes must be perceptible. The wine should stay true to its "roots" and represent transparency, character, and authenticity. Each bottle thus becomes a special experience. Many of the Algund vintners are members of the "Kellerei Meran" and make a significant contribution to these aromatic wines.
If you have admired the beautiful vineyards in Algund, you can now savor them in a fine wine.
Come by, raise a toast, and experience the Merano-Algund harmony in wine.

Urban Life Ride
City of Bressanone
starting at 14:30 More infoDuration: 02:30
Location: City of Bressanone
in German
The Urban Life Ride is more than a guided e-bike tour: it presents Brixen as it truly is – a seamless interplay of history, architecture and everyday life. Iconic buildings meet contemporary design, while historical identity connects with modern development.
The tour starts in the historic centre and follows the Eisack River northwards. With every kilometre, it becomes clear how closely natural landscape, urban development and cultural character are intertwined. A defining highlight is Neustift Monastery. Nestled peacefully in the landscape and closely linked to the town for centuries, it stands for continuity, wine culture and spiritual life. This stop creates a clear contrast to the urban density and broadens the perspective on Brixen’s many layers.
Back in the urban setting, the focus shifts to contemporary architecture. Projects by locally rooted yet internationally successful industries add distinctive accents: clean lines, functional design and high-quality materials. They demonstrate how economic strength and architectural ambition go hand in hand, shaping the city’s ongoing development.
In between, everyday life unfolds. People on the move, lively squares, connecting routes. The e-bikes by Hepha by Nardello fit naturally into this setting, making it easy to explore the different parts of the town and to move effortlessly between nature, history and modern architecture.

A musical dialogue on spirituality, hope, suffering, and redemption: Works by Arvo Pärt, Sofia Gubaidulina, Pēteris Vasks, and Benjamin Britten invite you on a moving sonic journey.
In “Spiegel im Spiegel”, Arvo Pärt creates a meditative atmosphere with gently rising and falling chords and a widely spanning cello melody, encouraging inner reflection.
Sofia Gubaidulina’s “Et Exspecto” explores the diverse expressive possibilities of the bayan, a Russian button accordion. Central to the piece is the instrument’s unique ability to “breathe.” In “De Profundis”, inspired by Psalm 130, the composer traces the path from human suffering toward hope and redemption. Her work “In Croce” is an urgent meditation on suffering, in which ascending and descending melodic lines symbolically cross, and the cello and accordion engage in a tense dialogue.
Pēteris Vasks dedicated “Das Buch” to cellist David Geringas. Inspired by the Books of Moses, the composition blends earnest pleading with deep gratitude and inner peace.
Excerpts from Benjamin Britten’s 3rd Cello Suite complement the program. Composed for Mstislav Rostropovich, the work combines baroque forms with traditional Russian melodies and a modern tonal language. Particularly, the hymn to the departed lends the music an emotionally stirring depth.
An extraordinary concert experience that unites the expressive power of cello and bayan, taking listeners on a moving journey between darkness and light.

Geir Draugsvoll, bayan

Game Design Workshop: Creating a Quest
Bolzano City Centre
starting at 14:00 More infoDuration: 02:00
Location: Bolzano City Centre
At Game Ground, Diego Ricchiuti comes to Castel Mareccio for a workshop devoted to quest design. Admission is free.
What is quest design? It is the design of the missions a player faces within a video game: objectives, events, choices, characters, obstacles and consequences are organised to create an engaging and coherent experience. It is about turning a sequence of ideas into something the player can truly live, explore and play.
During the workshop, participants work together on creating an original quest, thinking about the structure of the mission, the events that make it up and how these turn into the player's final experience.
Two hours to step into the creative process that turns an idea into a game.

NACRE (HENDOKU IYAKU) – Santija Bieza
THRESHOLD – Sabine Raffeiner
CATCH ME (BEF-)OR(-E) I FALL – Paola Zadra & Daniel Vacas Peralta
The elegant spaces of the Sala Civica in Merano are once again hosting the South Tyrolean dance theatre festival Alps Move. Three artists have been invited to present their productions. The Latvian performance artist Santija Bieza reflects on the oyster’s ability to transform an impurity into a most precious material, mother-of-pearl – a transformative process that
art, too, is capable of. The Merano-based choreographer Sabine Raffeiner works with three dancers to explore delicate moments of suspension – those moments of pause before letting oneself go. Finally, the Trentino-based dancer Paola Zadra and the video artist Daniel Vacas Peralta blend dance and video to reflect on balance, a fundamental element of movement and an essential condition of existence.

Brassfestival Meran/o - GERMAN BRASS
Historic town of Merano
starting at 20:00 More infoDuration: 02:00
Location: Historic town of Merano
German Brass owes its success to its sound. As a pioneer amongst brass ensembles, German Brass has not only made music history since its foundation in 1974, but continues to build on its success story. The ten solo brass players and university professors are distinguished by their uncompromising commitment to creating their ensemble’s distinctive sound, rediscovering and reinventing it anew in every concert and every recording. Sound is celebrated by German Brass – and thus becomes an experience for the audience. Ever since the celebrations honouring Johann Sebastian Bach – the musical inspiration behind the legendary German Brass sound – led to the definitive line-up of ten brass players in 1984, German Brass has performed in this formation. Brass chamber music has long since become an established and integral part of concert life, both nationally and internationally, and German Brass has lived up to its reputation as a pioneer throughout all these decades. The arrangements by Mathias Höfs and Alexander Erbrich-Crawford, tailored specifically to the artistic and technical excellence of the ensemble members, have long since become classics in the brass repertoire.

Fié allo Sciliar
starting at 18:30 More infoLocation: Fié allo Sciliar
Our youth choir from Fiè was founded in 2016, and so much has happened over these past ten years: we have shared countless rehearsals and concerts, made new friendships, travelled, laughed, celebrated and, above all, made lots and lots of music together. What started as a small group of young people passionate about music has grown into a colourful, slightly crazy bunch who still love singing, making music and laughing together.
Over the years, we have collected quite a few favourite songs that we would love to share with you. During our anniversary concert, we will take you on a musical journey through the past ten years, featuring songs that have been particularly meaningful to us, spanning pop, rock, gospel and film music.
Before the concert, we invite you to join us from 6:30 pm for a small aperitif and a prize draw. After the concert, we would love to celebrate our birthday together with you and raise a glass to 10 years full of music and shared experiences.
We would be delighted to spend this special evening with you, listening to our favourite songs – or perhaps even getting up and dancing!
With musical greetings

Ursula Schnitzer, the exhibition's curator and originator, will guide participants through the exhibition, offering fascinating insights into the life and work of photographer Oswald Kofler. The tour is followed by a walk to Maria Assunta and the Menz family memorial.
Meeting point: at the Tourist Office in Oberbozen / railway station.
Price: €15; free with RittenCard.

In the historic railway station building of Oberbozen, Silent Observations presents a selection of analogue photographs by Oswald Kofler, a Bolzano-born artist and photographer who devoted more than five decades to photography.
With a subtle and poetic eye, Kofler captured people, landscapes, and quiet details of everyday life. His black-and-white photographs in particular are distinguished by their precision, atmosphere, and graphic clarity.
Since childhood, the Ritten plateau was an important retreat and place of work for Kofler — a close connection that is powerfully reflected in the photographs on display.
The exhibition is open until 8 November, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, and Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm.

Explore the mysterious history of Palazzo Nero and Castel Coredo, and warm up with Trentino roast chestnuts in the castle grounds!

For a long time it was very difficult to reach Terenten from the valley. For hundreds of years the village people had to look after themselves. The farmers and craftsmen provided food and clothes. Almost every farm had its own mill. However, only few of them are still fully functional. The educational mills path leads along Ternerbach River. During a 1,5 hour hike you walk past 7 renovated corn mills, some of which are up to 500 years old. This is where farmers used to grain corn into fine flour, and sometimes still do.
